The Swiss Corvair club was founded in autumn 1989 with the target of the preservation and restoration of vehicles of the brand Chevrolet Corvair, which was manufactured from 1960 to 1969. The member stock amounts to 45 persons with over 50 vehicles, 13 of them are within the German Section of Swiss Corvair Club.
Corvair fans of all age groups, from the attorney to the secretary, from the veterinary surgeon to the mechanic meet from the far distance of Berlin, Vienna or Geneva, in order to discuss at the informal club meetings their cars.
The Corvair was often also called «Chevy tail», because - a strange thing for American car - the engine is in the back. It is an air-cooled 6-cylinder engine of 2,3 or 2,6 l capacity, partly even with turbocharger, also a new fact for the time at that time.
As one of the first American compact cars it was also far ahead concerning styling; sedan, station wagon, coupe, convertible, bus and delivery van have a similar basic Carosserie ahead of its time.
Due to excellent spare part supply the Corvair can be used still today as a daily driver.
